Today is day 5 of my 10-Day Juice Fast.  Again this morning I woke up and I was asleep on my stomach.  I immediately noticed I didn’t feel quite as well as I did the previous three mornings.  I’ve also noticed that today I’m hungry.  NOT FAMISHED but yes hungry.  For the first time in over 4 days I’m truly hungry.  I’m hoping this is a passing phase as the lack of hunger has been the easiest part of doing this fast. Overall, I’m feeling much better than when I started.  After all, that is my goal!  Better health.  Weight loss will just be a bonus.  I will continue on my quest today and 5 more.  At which point I will step on the scale and we shall see what the weight loss benefits actually are.  If I were this hungry every day, a long term fast of 60 days or more would be much more difficult.  We shall see.

This evening I went to The Biltmore Estate with a friend.  During the holidays they have it open at night and all decorated for Christmas. It was truly amazing.  Also, they had musicians performing inside the house.  They were all very talented and it just made the ambiance that much nicer.

Most of the day I was hungry but again, not starving like on almost every single diet I’ve ever done.  My friend “Deidra” CHEATED TODAY!  Well cheated may be a strong word.  We had agreed not to weigh until after the ten-days were completed.  She however COULD NOT WAIT.  She lost 8.5 pounds in just 5 days.  She is so excited.  I knew the weight loss would come because the amount of calories we’re taking is so very low.  She wasn’t convinced, BEFORE TODAY.

Until tomorrow…

It’s the morning of my 4th Day of a ten-day juice fast.  There are so many feelings and thoughts running through my body and my head.  When my eyes opened this morning the very first thing I noticed was my mind was razor sharp and crystal clear.  This is unlike 99% of my mornings when I wake up and my mind is completely in a hazy fog.  Also, for the second time in 4 days I woke up sleeping on my stomach.  This is bazaar as I always sleep on my side due to pain in my back.  I noted it the first day but just thought it was a fluke.  However today when I woke up like that and I wasn’t struggling to breath I definitely knew something was different.  It will be quite interesting to see where the next 6 days takes me.

I did learn one-thing yesterday.  I learned NOT to use a beet without first peeling it.  I’m told the skins can be toxic.  I also learned if a juice tastes horrible just throw it out and start over.  I made the mistake of making myself drinking all of the juice and it was about an hour and a half of cold sweats and willing myself not to throw up.  The good news is at least I ingested the healthy juice.

As I type this blog it’s after 11 in the evening.  The only real hunger I had today was when I was at the movies.  The popcorn smelled heavenly.  Other than that, the hunger has been SURPRISINGLY manageable.  I’m beginning to think I’m not going to get sick from my body detoxing.  That would be wonderful.

So as mentioned in the title and in the previous paragraph I did go to the movies today.  I went to see  “Rise of the Guardians.”  While it seemed to be an OK movie the experience today was very unusual.  I arrived early, strange for me.  Went in and there was a father with his two sons sitting where I normally sit.  So I walked about halfway up and took a seat in the center of an aisle.  Then the father was joined by his mother-in-law, wife and another child.  They were talking all through the previews and I thought OK here we go.  Surprisingly when the movie started they piped down.  Shortly after that a mother came in carrying a baby and three very young sons in tow.  Bear in mind the entire theater is empty except for the one family and me.  She comes all the way up and takes the seats DIRECTLY in front of me.  At first the boys were relatively quiet.  But then when their baby sister started acting up I guess they thought it was OK for them to do the same.  So after fighting myself and trying to stay in my seat and ignore the interruptions I finally gave up and moved up to the second from the last row.  A few minutes later the mother got up with here infant and left the theater.  PLEASE REALIZE that the three boys left behind ranged in age from 2 to 6.  Their mother wasn’t gone more than 5 minutes before the two youngest jumped up and started running in the aisles and up the stairs.  All this running while the theater was almost pitch black.  I had an anxiety attack so I got up and left.  I told the Manager on the way out that a mother had left her three sons alone in the theater and what the kids were doing.  We turned around and her came the two-year-old through the lobby “mommy, mommy, mommy?!?”  I then left to go to my truck.  As I walked out, there was the mother in a mini-van, on her cell phone, smoking a cigarette, with the infant in her car seat!!!  It’s 2012, don’t parents know that exposing their babies to cigarette smoke can cause Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)????

Since I came home early I started a bonfire and burned a bunch of leaves.

Until tomorrow…

Well I woke up this morning and definitely had a dull headache.  I was afraid that the “detox sickness” had begun.  I assume it’s going to come sooner or later but today I have a doctors appointment and I don’t want to be driving with a really bad headache.   Further, I’m not eating as I want the doctor to do blood work.  So until I get back from the appointment I’m on my own as I have no idea where to get fresh juice while out and about.  In any case it’s been about 2 hours since I woke up and my headache is subsiding.  Further when I first woke up I noticed the normal brain fog I’ve suffered from for ten-years.  But within a few minutes it somewhat lifted and I noticed I could think a little clearly.  I’m hoping these are all just signs of good things to come.  With the morning also came a higher sense of smell.  UNFORTUNATELY, this improved sense comes with problems.  First off, I could smell the dry dog food and it smelled like Prime Rib!  YUK!!!  Then I could smell the vegetable waste in the garbage, mostly kale! DOUBLE YUK!!!  The sad part is I could smell all of this while still laying in my bed.  Therefore, at minimum I must throw all of the vegetable wast into the outside garbage each time I juice as the smell is nasty.  Today being the third day of the fast I have to say I haven’t been near as hungry as I would have thought.  BUT, just seeing food on TV, reading about food my friend “Deidra” is making for her family (which must be so hard for her as she’s fasting with me too) or even hearing something on TV describing food and I get a wave of hunger.  So far the wave of hunger quickly passes or goes away when I juice.

Above you will see today’s featured juice recipe:

Collard Greens

Beet

Green Onions

Clove of Garlic

Red Pepper

Red Cabbage (not pictured)

Whatever you do for the rest of your life DO NOT MAKE THIS JUICE!  It was the nastiest juice ever.  Ever, as in the history of the world!  Sad part is I still have to drink another one tonight but I refuse to throw it down the drain.  So drink it I shall!

Until tomorrow…

This morning was my 2nd day of a ten-day juice fast.  I highly recommend acquiring the documentary “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead,” by Joe Cross.  I’m doing this fast buddy-style with my friend “Deidra.”  So far so good.  The picture above is what I put in my breakfast juice.

A little background.  When suffering from Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome there are several symptoms.  A few of the symptoms I suffer from regularly are brain fog, exhaustion, pain all over my body on and on.  I specifically mention these as this morning, the morning after my first full-day of juice fasting, while laying in bed somewhere between being fully awake and asleep something felt different.  I immediately noticed that my mind was actively formatting a letter that I need to write today.  Further, I felt like I had actually rested.  Finally, my pain was muted.  Why are these things significant?  Well, usually it takes me hours to wake up and be able to “think clearly.”  I never feel as though I’ve rested.  Every single day of my life for the past ten-years what I’m greeted with every single morning is all over body pain.  While any one of these would be exciting, the combination of all of them was almost emotionally moving.  Listen, I’m not naive.  I wasn’t expecting to feel anything different when I woke up this morning and the fact that I did was encouraging.  However, I know this is temporary and the fact that I’m more than 200 pounds overweight and suffer from multiple debilitating afflictions will absolutely take time to resolve, if even possible.  Add to that the fact that this is just a ten-day juice fasting to see how it affects me.  I know in my heart, for me to garner long-term benefits to a juicing fast, I’ll need to do a minimum of 60-days and probably more like 90-days to jump start my unhealthy body into a real period of permanent healing.  Healing from severe morbid obesity, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.  I’ll just say it was quite encouraging to wake up today and feel like I was alive instead of just going through the motions.  At least for a few precious moments this morning, I feel like I’m “Back From The Living Dead!”

Today I went to the store and picked up Collard Greens, Creasy Greens, Kale, Cucumbers, Celery, Green Apples, Asparagus, Cabbage (Red & Green), and Lemons.  The cashier at the register asked me if I liked greens.  I replied, “no.”  She must have thought I was crazy!  Truth of the matter is I don’t like them but I like my lack of health even less.  Maybe one-day I’ll actually like them.

I just got an e-mail from Deidra.  She said she felt so good today that she went hiking with her husband.  She got a little nauseated while doing this activity but she said it passed as quickly as it came on.  She did complain of a dull headache most of the day.  I think it’s because she’s gone caffeine free.  She is drinking enough water to turn into a fish.  I’ve always drank plenty of water so this is the easiest part of a juice fast for me.  I’m afraid she and I are both in for some unpleasant feelings either tomorrow or Tuesday as I believe that by the 3rd or 4th day toxins will start breaking down in our system.  In any case, as I type this blog I’m just now hungry.  So I’m off to make my second juice of the day at 8:45PM.

Until tomorrow…

A Scare and a Juice

IMG_0008

It probably goes without saying it’s been a rough few days. One can assume when I don’t update I’m not feeling well.  Not only have I been dealing with pain and exhaustion but we almost lost one of my best friends Mother two nights ago.  She is doing much better but she’s not out of the woods yet.  A needed surgery is her next hurdle.  My thoughts are with her and her family.

Today a friend of mine, let’s just call her “Deidra,” decided to do a ten-day juice fast.  Since I’m the one that got her roped into this, in support of her I will do the same.  She made me laugh really hard this evening.  Her daughter had dance lessons this afternoon.  She told her daughter to bring a salad as she thought that would be something she would be able to stand her daughter eating in front of her.  The daughter said no she wouldn’t be hungry.  Needless to say that didn’t work.  So Deidra went to Subway to pick up something from her daughter.  There was a long line and Deidra thought she wasn’t going to be able to stand it.  For the first time today she was hungry.  Not just hungry but ravenous!  The smell of that fresh bread would do it to anyone!  Anyway, she told her daughter we have to go home now!  Her daughter was stalling and Deidra exclaimed, “You don’t understand!  We have to go home NOW!  I’m like a vampire and if I don’t get some juice I’m going to feed!”  LOOOOOOL  I laughed so hard when she told me this story.  I must say I haven’t been hungry today but as I type this blog I do feel some hungry cravings.  Hopefully it won’t be horrible.  I’m expecting the “horrible” to come on the third day or so.

Deidra and I are going to do this ten-day fast together.  We are juice buddies and plan on sharing information to help each other learn.  In that vein, neither of us have ever done drugs in our life.  But we both agree the rush of energy we got after our first juice must be what people feel when they do a line of cocaine.

Until tomorrow…

Attention!! If you have a Powerball Ticket dated BEFORE November 27th check your numbers!  If they match the following numbers you have just won a trip to The Ellen DeGeneres Show 12 Days of Giveaways (Christmas Shows)!!!  Check those tickets!  And your winning numbers are: 18 24 26 40 55 PB 29.

I think I’ve found the fountain of youth!  I’ve been juicing vegetables with a few fruits.  I swear to you this must be what it feels like to do cocaine.  I drink the juice and I feel it spread throughout my entire body.  I hope it gives me a little relief from the pain of Fibromyalgia and perhaps a little energy to counteract the malaise associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Until tomorrow…

If you enjoyed any of the Twilight movies I HIGHLY recommend seeing the final installment The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.   I saw it today and it was by far the best in the series.  Entertaining from beginning to the end.  4 out of 4 stars.

The Powerball is estimated at $500 million dollars tomorrow night.  Since I am feeling so generous I am offering the following: any of my Facebook friends who “like” the link to this page on my Facebook page will be in for a share of the winnings.  AFTER I.R.S. is paid their share of the Lotto winnings and the $70,000+ dollars they say I currently owe them (I DON’T!) then I will split the winnings off of the ticket in the photo above.  The ONLY ticket eligible for this generous offer is this one.  Any other ticket I should win on wouldn’t count.  😉  When I hire an attorney to get back every penny of the $70,000 they are trying to get from me now any monies recovered will be mine!  Let’s see who of my friends actually read my blog!  Good luck to each and every one of us!

Until tomorrow…
